Street Side Gardens!!

I think street-side gardens are so beautiful!  They brighten peoples day as they walk by. At Noemi’s house, down the street, I notice people really stop to check out what flowers are blooming and when walking home, I always choose the route that goes by her house and beautiful garden, especially with the kids!

I hope one day I will have the time to make one, but like she once said to me:  “Shiri, when I had two young kids and was hustling a full time job, my garden did not look like this. It only looks like this now, because I have been retired for a while and have the time!”  It was a good reminder that there is a time and a place for everything.  Right now, its with the kids which I am savouring and later (when they don’t want to spend time with their “mom”), it will be for other fun stuff!  So look out for my street side garden in about 10-15 years.

Sharing Your Backyard (or Front Yard!) Program in Toronto – Win Win!

Did you know there are programs in Toronto to match people with garden space to people that need garden space?!

How does it work?

People with garden space lend the space to people that want to plant. Then everyone shares in the harvest.

You may be thinking, I have space in my garden, but why would I want to share it?!

The arrangement can be a win win scenario for both parties.

For the party lending the space:

  • Their garden is cultivated by someone else
  • It has the potential to look very nice
  • Everyone shares in the harvest – so yes, the potential for free veggies all summer!
  • You are building community
